My nickname is Melierax, and I have always had a passion for wildlife. My photography has helped me reach out and really connect with the animals around us all. I love taking pictures, and running around outside following birds and animals for a perfect shot always excites me. Seeing that I have lived in Idaho all my life, my love for Idahoan Wildlife in particular is not too surprising. But still, the wildlife here is the kind of wildlife someone can look at and say, "I never even knew that even existed!", unlike other places where the most common animals are birds like Northern Cardinals, Blue Jays, and animals like squirrels and mice. In Idaho, someone can look at an animal and be truly interested; the Steller's Jay is one particularly interesting bird, having a longer crest than any other bird in North America, and the Porcupine is a huge surprise when you first see one. Living in Idaho is a pleasure all around; to me, this will always be the best state in the U.S
Ever since I knew how to use a camera, I have been taking pictures; the entire idea that someone can just take a picture of a single moment in time and always have that moment is still so enticing to me. Because of this I tend to get a little button-happy with the shutter. After going on a vacation to take some photos, I'll usually end up with about 500 pictures in just a day. Afterwards I have to weed out all the bad ones, eventually ending up with about 20 to 100 pictures.
Along with being interested in birds, I also enjoy messing with technology. I was involved with the FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics competition for about four years before dropping out due to the tough schedule and irritating competitions. My brother and I have always loved building things both with technology and woodwork.
I also tend to enjoy playing computer games, mainly Sonic Robo Blast 2, and because of this every once in a while I might post something game related. I don't really play this game any more, however, because the people who play it are quite worldly.
One of my other main hobbies is playing the piano. I started playing when I was 3 years old, and I still enjoy it. I am considering another instrument, but I already play piano for a good 45 minutes a day, and I also have quite a bit of school, so something else to fill up the time would just be too much.
I own a bow and arrow, which I pull out every once in a while and shoot. Unfortunately, I'm left-eyed, meaning I have to pull back the string with my left arm; and I'm right-handed. I also own two pocket knives and a Mora knife. I like to whittle, although I don't do it very often any more.
I am a strong Christian. I hold fast to God's word and follow his commandments. Unfortunately, I'm not going to a church right now because the town I live in is rather scanty as far as Christianity goes. Here in Southern Idaho the majority of the people are LDS, so there really isn't much of a call for a good, solid church.
I have a mild form of vestophobia. If you want to look it up, it says that anyone who has it would rather be seen naked than wear clothes. That is definitely NOT what this phobia is like for me. I just have an aversion to very tight clothes such as skinny jeans or clingy shirts.
Some people who are really into birds might be interested in the number of birds I have seen. My lifelist is around 155 or so, and I don't really care about my yearlist. If you would like more details, feel free to comment on any of my posts!
Thank you for your interest! I will enjoy putting up more blog posts in the future.
