I apologize for not posting in forever, but I had a good reason -- I was in San Francisco, California! My family decided to go to San Francisco by train just for the experience, and return by plane 10 days later. The train ride was very exhilarating, and with much less hassle than trying to get through the TSA. Once we got there, we stayed at the Omni Hotel in downtown SF. The next two days we went birding a little along the coast, and I picked up several lifers, including Brandt's Cormorant (all my pictures are far away and not worth seeing), and Surf Scoters. Highlights of the rest of the trip were seeing a nesting Pacific Wren with some super cute babies, seeing a Red-necked Grebe, and lots of Terns and other seabirds. I also saw two Black Oystercatchers, only the second time I've seen one! Pictures will come a little bit later, since I'm still going through my 2800 pictures I took. Apart from birdwatching, I also saw lots of sea lions and seals. The main reason we went was for the Maker Faire! There were an incredible 150,000 people there! We had lots of fun looking at all the booths.

So yesterday I went birding in the Snake River Canyon, and got lifer Canyon Wren! I also saw a House Wren, my first completely confirmed sighting of one. I also found three super cute fluffy young Great Horned Owls, all hooting loudly. I suppose there was a nest nearby. There were lots of marmots and lizards and other wildlife, but my favorite was this lizard:
My first Bullock's Oriole of the year! I love these guys. I put out oranges for them today, so hopefully they'll hang around! Last year a pair nested nearby, and they were fun to watch. Maybe they'll reuse their nest!
